Ippolito Fleitz interview

It's always fun working with our clients and friends on the continent and it was especially fun working alongside Daniel Cano, Head of Recruitment at Ippolito Fleitz. After recently placing their new Director of International Projects, Tomas Contreras, we sat down with Dani to learn about IFGroup's approach to design and what they look for in great clients and projects.

WHAT IS YOUR GOAL AT IPPOLITO FLEITZ?

Our goal as a company is to build identities together with our clients, in the highest quality possible. That means doing beautiful and exciting projects, that match the client’s needs and personality.

My central goal is, in short, to try to make our team better, first by bringing new colleagues that can improve our team and bring new energy. And later by supporting the team in different aspects, aiming towards growing and improving together. Our goal as a company is that every colleague in our team stays with us as long as possible, and we commit several programs and resources to achieve that goal. All of that, while having fun and keeping the excitement along the process.

WHY DO YOU LOOK FOR IN A POTENTIAL CANDIDATE

We look for many different profiles, it varies a lot. Thinking about a common ground for all our candidates, hard skills and experience are the door opener: matching what our team specifically needs in that search moment is, of course, important. But soft skills and additional abilities are crucial as well.

At the end of the day, we are looking for a balanced mix of highly skilled professional and interesting, curious personalities, which can bring his/her own energy to the team.

WHAT DO YOU LOOK FOR IN A GREAT PROJECT OR CLIENT

We are always looking for the optimal solution for our customers. The first step is to understand their identity. Only in the next step do we translate this into a space. The result is as individual as our customers. Concerning projects, creating links, connections, common narratives, memories is the main challenge. That relies on high quality standards and a thorough materialization, but one does not come with the other.

In a client, we aim towards creating a strong relationship. This is the shortest path to build a unique identity for the projects. We could say communication is our first and most important building material.

WHAT IS GREAT DESIGN FOR YOU?

Great design inspires you. You remember great design. You feel related to great design. And you feel that it was done thinking just in you.
Great design implies connection, in as many levels as possible. Great design means relevance for our clients.

WHAT MAKES A GREAT PRACTICE AND KEEPS YOU AHEAD?

I love the Red Queen’s quote from Alice in Wonderland: in some point, the Red Queen and Alice start to run, but they don’t really move forward. Alice asks why. And the Red Queen answers: “Now, here, you see, it takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same place. If you want to get somewhere else, you must run at least twice as fast as that”.
